¿Qué es la FIAV?
FIAV significa Federación Internacional de Asociaciones Vexilologícas, el objetivo de la FIAV es el estudio vexilológico para la creación y desarrollo del conocimiento de todo tipo de banderas, formas y funciones. Aplicar también teorías científicas a este conocimiento.
La FIAV se creó oficialmente el 7 de Septiembre de 1967 en el III Congreso Internacional de Vexilología, en Boston. Dos años antes ya se organizó en el II Congreso Internacional de Vexilología celebrado en Rüschlikon, Suiza. La Bandera de la FIAV, diseñada por Klaes Sierksma y con pequeñas modificaciones echas en el II Congreso. Representa «Un campo azul que se extiende horizontalmente con dos cabos amarillos que se unen entre sí». Las sedes centrales están en Houston, Texas y Londres, los idiomas oficiales son el Francés, Inglés, Alemán y Español, y forman parte de él 55 asociaciones y instituciones. El presidente es Michel R. Lupant.
