What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in the browser of the device you visit it from (computer, tablet or phone) and can read again later. The applicable rules — Article 22.2 of Spanish Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE), Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD) — treat any other technique for storing and retrieving data on the user’s device, such as the browser’s local storage, in the same way as cookies.
Cookies allow the website to remember information between pages and between visits. They cannot read your hard drive, run programs or obtain your phone number.
Who uses the cookies on this website
The party responsible for first-party cookies is Wiki Banderas. You can write to us at about any matter relating to this policy.
Third-party cookies are set and managed by the providers listed in the table on this page, each under its own privacy policy.
Types of cookies by purpose
Technical or necessary: essential for the website to work (security, language preference, remembering your cookie choice). They are exempt from the consent requirement and cannot be disabled.
Preference or personalisation: they remember non-essential usage options, such as text size or the chosen view.
Analytics or measurement: they allow us to count users and understand how they browse in order to improve the site. They are only enabled if you consent.
Advertising and behavioural advertising: they allow ads to be shown and their performance measured, in some cases based on a browsing profile. They are only enabled if you consent.
Cookies used by this website
This is the full inventory of cookies and equivalent storage techniques that wikibanderas.com may use. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set if you accept them.
| Name | Owner | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
cookie-consent | Wiki Banderas (first party) | Technical | Stores your choice for each cookie category so the banner does not reappear on every page. It is kept in the browser’s local storage, not as an HTTP cookie. | 24 months, or until you clear the site data in your browser |
a11y-prefs | Wiki Banderas (first party) | Technical | Stores the options you choose in the accessibility panel — contrast, text size, line spacing, legible font, reduced motion and reading aids — so they can be applied again when you return to the site. It is kept in the browser’s local storage, not as an HTTP cookie, and does not identify anyone. | Until you reset your preferences in the same panel or clear the site data in your browser |
petjada-optout | Wiki Banderas (first party) | Technical | Only created if you press “Do not measure my visits” on this page or “Opt out” in the cookie settings: it tells the anonymous statistics not to send data from this browser. It is kept in the browser’s local storage, not as an HTTP cookie, and does not identify anyone. | Until you allow measurement again or clear the site data in your browser |
wb-vot:* | Wiki Banderas (first party) | Technical | Only created if you rate a flag with the stars on its page: it stores the score you gave so it is shown selected when you come back. There is one per rated flag (the asterisk is the flag’s name). It is kept in the browser’s local storage, not as an HTTP cookie, and does not identify anyone. | Until you clear the site data in your browser |
wb-like:* | Wiki Banderas (first party) | Technical | Only created if you “like” a fun fact on a flag page: it remembers this so the heart is shown selected when you come back. There is one per fun fact (the asterisk identifies it) and it is deleted if you remove the “like”. It is kept in the browser’s local storage, not as an HTTP cookie, and does not identify anyone. | Until you clear the site data in your browser |
_ga | Google Ireland Limited (third party) | Analytics | Distinguishes users by assigning a random identifier to the device. | 2 years |

Consent: accept, reject and configure
The first time you visit the website, a banner lets you accept all cookies, reject them all or configure them by category. Until you make a choice, only technical cookies are set: no analytics or advertising cookie is loaded before you consent.
Rejecting them is as easy as accepting them and does not restrict access to the content. You can change your mind at any time with the settings button on this same page; your new choice applies immediately and, if you withdraw analytics, any cookies already set are deleted.
Your choice is kept for a maximum of 24 months. After that period, or if the purposes or providers change, the banner will ask for your consent again.
How to manage cookies from your browser
As well as using the banner, you can block or delete cookies already set from your browser settings. The most common browsers explain how on their help pages: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera.
If you block all cookies in your browser, some features of the website may stop working properly.
Third-party cookies and international transfers
When you accept third-party cookies, these providers may process your data on their own behalf and, where applicable, transfer it outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards provided for in Chapter V of the GDPR (adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses). Details are available in each provider’s privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
Wiki Banderas may amend this cookie policy to reflect changes in legislation, guidance from the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) or the cookies in use at any given time. Any change will be published on this same page and we will update its date.

Visit statistics
To find out how the website is used, Wiki Banderas uses an anonymous statistics service, on a server in the European Union. It does not use cookies, which is why we do not ask for your consent in the banner.
It collects the page visited and the page on this website you came from (without URL parameters), the external domain you arrive from and, if the link includes them, campaign parameters (utm), screen width, where you click and on which element of the page (by its technical name, not its text), how far you scroll and how long you are active. It never collects the text of the page or what you type.
The service creates no identifier: each interaction is stored with nothing linking it to who you are or to your visits on other days or to other websites. The time is stored rounded to the quarter hour, and if a page address contains an email, a long number or a code, it is masked. The service is loaded from this same website: the server delivering the page receives your IP address, like any web server, but the statistics service neither reads nor stores it.
The legal basis for this processing is the legitimate interest of Wiki Banderas in knowing how the website is used so it can be improved (Art. 6.1.f GDPR). Interaction details are kept for 30 days and are not included in backups; after that only aggregate statistics remain (counts per page and per day), which are anonymous.
You can object to this measurement at any time with the “Do not measure my visits” button at the top of this page. The service stops sending data from that browser instantly, including in any other open tabs.
Flag ratings
On each flag’s page you can rate it from one to five stars. Voting is anonymous: you do not need to register or give any data, and nobody, not even Wiki Banderas, can know who voted for what.
So that each person counts only once per flag, when you vote a code is calculated from your IP address and your browser’s identifier, mixed with a secret key. Stored alongside the score are that code and a second code calculated only from the connection (the IP address or, for IPv6, the part that identifies the network), used so that no more than five votes per flag can be cast from the same connection. Neither code can be used to recover the IP address or the browser: the IP address is never stored. If you vote for the same flag again from the same connection and the same browser, your new score replaces the previous one instead of being added to it.
Your browser also remembers the score you gave (local storage, key “wb-vot”, detailed in the table on this page), only so it can be shown selected when you return to the flag’s page. It is not sent anywhere.
Only aggregate results are published: the average and the number of votes for each flag, and the list of the best and worst rated flags on the home page. The legal basis is the legitimate interest of Wiki Banderas in ratings being reliable (Art. 6.1.f GDPR). Scores are kept for as long as the website displays them.
As the code cannot identify you, we cannot locate your votes to show them to you or delete them on request (Art. 11 GDPR). You can change your vote at any time from the flag’s page.
The “likes” on the fun facts on flag pages work in the same way: the same code is stored alongside the fun fact, only the number of “likes” each one has and the list of the most liked on the home page are published, and your browser remembers it with the key “wb-like”. You can remove your “like” by pressing the heart again.
