What the flag of Chile looks like
It has two equal horizontal stripes, white above and red below, and a blue square next to the pole, as tall as the white stripe, with a white five-pointed star in the centre. Its proportion is 2:3 and it was adopted by decree on 18 October 1817. The blue represents the sky and the Pacific Ocean, the white, the snow-capped Andes, and the red, the blood shed for independence.
The star is always upright, with one point up. When the flag is displayed vertically or against a wall, the blue square goes at the top left of the viewer. Supreme Decree No. 1534 (1967) sets the official construction.

A curious detail: the flag of Texas looks like Chile’s, but it is not a copy.
