The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Aiòder is a white field with the municipal coat of arms in the centre: a carrasca tree over some rocks, on an azure field.

How it came about

Aiòder is a municipality in the comarca of Alt Millars, in the province of Castellón. Its flag was approved on 15 April 1999.

The carrasca is the traditional tree of the interior of Castellón: a central piece of the coat of arms of which it is part. It is the most repeated silhouette in the coats of arms of the comarca.

How it has changed

It has never changed. It was approved in 1999 and there are no documented later modifications.

Fun facts

  1. The carrasca, the tree of Millars

The carrasca is a rugged tree: of twisted bearing and dark bark, it is the most characteristic plant symbol of the interior of Castellón. It appears in the coats of arms of Aiòder and other municipalities of the comarca, which share that same tree as their sign.

  2. A small coat of arms on a large field

The coat of arms takes up about two fifths of the height of the field. It is a low proportion: the flag is almost all white field. The decision leaves the coat of arms room to breathe and gives the cloth a very clear, very legible look at a distance.

  3. White and blue, the two colours of the field

The white cloth and the azure field of the coat of arms are the only two colours in the design. The contrast between the white of the cloth and the blue of the shield makes the arms readable without needing any border or shadow.
