The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Fafe has eight red and white gironnies (triangles), with the coat of arms in the centre. The coat of arms joins a red mill wheel, a sun, maize and grapes. Before it was plain red.

How it came about

Fafe was raised to city on 28 June 1984. The new flag and coat of arms were published in the Diário da República on 23 January 1987, according to Flags of the World. The plain flag was swapped for the ground of eight gironnies and the crown of five towers, the marks of a city.

How it has changed

The previous flag was published on 14 June 1940, in the Diário do Governo: plain red, with the town coat of arms and a crown of four towers. We have not found a free image.
