The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Algimia de Almonacid is a field cut by two diagonal lines into three: red next to the flagpole, yellow in the centre and white towards the fly side. On the red stripe there is a golden castle.

How it came about

Algimia de Almonacid is a municipality in the province of Castellón, in Alto Palancia. Its flag dates from 9 March 2004.

The castle carries a white flag on the flagpole of the central tower. It is the only figure on the whole flag and it occupies the red field, the one against the flagpole.

Fun facts

  1. Three fields from two diagonals

The flag uses neither horizontal nor vertical stripes: they are two diagonal lines that cross the field and leave three equal bands. It is the same geometry as the Aragonese bars, but applied diagonally and in three colours.

  2. The castle carries its own flag

The golden castle is not alone: on the central tower a small white flag flies. It is the only figurative detail besides the castle, and it makes it a heraldic figure rather than a schematic tower.

  3. The red is the narrow stripe

Of the three fields, the red is the narrowest and goes against the flagpole. The figures are placed in the hardest stripe to see, which forces you to look at the flagpole side to find them.
