The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Badia del Vallès is a field divided into two equal vertical halves, yellow and green, with a black swift with a white breast in the centre, over the join of the two.

How it came about

Badia del Vallès is a municipality in the province of Barcelona, in the Vallès Occidental. Its flag is from 1998, dated 11 June.

The swift, with its long scythe-shaped wings, is the bird that nests in the buildings of the village. It is centred exactly on the line where the two coloured halves meet.

How it has changed

It has never changed. It is from 1998 and there are no documented later modifications.

What it means

  • Yellow

    the half by the flagpole.

  • Green

the half towards the fly side.

  • Swift

a black bird with a white breast, centred on the division. It measures five sevenths of the height of the field.

  • No coat of arms

no coat of arms or border.

Fun facts

  1. The bird right at the border of the colours

The swift is centred on the line where the two halves meet, so its left half falls on the yellow and its right on the green. It is a composition designed for the figure to be the bridge between the two fields.

  2. A bird that nests in the houses

The swift is the bird that nests in buildings, and its scythe-winged silhouette is unmistakable. In the coat of arms of Badia it appears as a canting element, and here it is drawn whole, with the white breast marked.

  3. Five sevenths of the height

The bird takes up five sevenths of the height of the field, that is, almost all of it. At that proportion the swift is what you see from a distance, and the two colours are left as a simple frame.
