How it came about

Benafigos is a municipality in the province of Castellón, in the Alto Maestrat. Its flag dates from 11 July 2001.

The two yellow crosses have equal arms and do not reach the edges of the field. The tower has the brick marked with lines, two black windows at the top and an arched door at the base.

Fun facts

  1. Three figures on an empty field

The flag sets a tower in the centre and two crosses at the sides, with no coat of arms or frame. The three figures come from the municipal coat of arms, but taken out of the shield and placed directly on the green.

  2. Crosses that do not reach the edge

The two yellow crosses are smaller than the field would allow: they touch neither the top edge nor the bottom one. It is a decision of blazon, not a cropping of the drawing.

  3. The brick is drawn

The tower is not plain white: it has the joints marked in lines, as on the flag of Atzeneta del Maestrat. It is a shared feature of the coats of arms of the Alto Maestrat, which always draw the stonework.
