How it came about

Blancafort is a municipality in the province of Valencia, in the comarca of the Garrotxa. Its flag dates from 1 July 2009.

Fun facts

  1. Pinnacles, not battlements

The tower does not end in square battlements, as on the flags of Atzeneta del Maestrat and Benafigos, but in four pinnacles with a conical roof. The difference turns a castle into a tower with a spire.

  2. The bars occupy the whole fly side

The fly side stripe carries no figure: only four yellow bars alternating with the red. It is the only part of the flag that is a pattern rather than a building.

  3. A figure and a pattern, face to face

The castle goes in the centre towards the flagpole and the bars on the free edge. The flag separates the image of the local symbol from the geometric motif, each in its half of the field.
