The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Quart de les Valls is a white field with three blue waves and the coat of arms on top. It is among the cleanest in the Camp de Morvedre: two colours, one figure and nothing else.

How it came about

Quart de les Valls is a municipality of the Camp de Morvedre, in the province of Valencia, on the banks of the Turia river. Its coat of arms was approved by Resolution of 15 April 1999, of the conseller de Presidència, published in DOGV number 3,512. The flag came six years later, by Resolution of 1 July 2005, published in DOGV number 5,060.

The three waves are the Turia, the river that crosses the municipality and gives its name to the comarca. The municipal coat of arms is placed in the centre, over the water.

How it has changed

It has never changed. It was approved in 2005 and there are no documented later modifications.

Fun facts

  1. Three waves for one river

A single wave would be enough to represent a river. Quart de les Valls uses three, the same convention that most Valencian flags use for water. They are three blue lines on white: the Turia reduced to a two-colour drawing.

  2. Six years of waiting

The coat of arms was approved in April 1999 and the flag in July 2005. Almost six years of difference, with official arms and no legalised cloth. It is among the slowest approvals in the Camp de Morvedre.

  3. Coat of arms centred over the water

The coat of arms sits at the exact centre of the field, over the waves, not in the canton nor on a stripe. It is the most neutral position possible: neither above nor below, neither left nor right.
