How it is described

The flag in the words of vexillology and heraldry.

Vexillological description

It is a rectangular field with a 2:3 ratio divided into two equal vertical halves.

Flagpole half
yellow, with a brick bell tower in the centre. It is a tall brick tower, with windows and an arched door, and a cornice at the top.
Fly half
light grey. At the top there is a three-arched stone bridge, with an arch in the parapet as well, and below it three wavy lines of water in blue.
No coat of arms
the two halves carry the drawings directly, without a coat of arms on top.

What it carries

Each element and how many of the 1,390 flags in the catalogue carry it. In yellow, the rarest.

The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Antella is a field divided into two vertical halves: the flagpole one yellow, with a brick bell tower, and the fly one light grey, with a stone bridge over the water.

How it came about

Antella is a municipality in the province of Valencia, in the comarca of the Ribera Alta. Its flag dates from 15 November 2010.

Each half carries a single figure. The left, the bell tower of the town, on a yellow ground. The right, the Roman bridge and the water, on a light grey ground.

How it has changed

No earlier versions are documented.

What it means

  • Yellow

the field of the half by the flagpole.

  • Bell tower

at the centre of that half. A tall brick tower, with an arched door and rectangular windows, topped by a cornice.

  • Light grey

the field of the half towards the fly side.

  • Bridge

in stone, with three large arches, and a second, smaller arch at the top of each pier.

  • Water

three wavy blue lines, below the bridge.

  • No coat of arms

there is no coat of arms on top; the drawings sit directly on the field.

Fun facts

  1. Two halves, two figures

Each half of the flag carries a single thing and nothing else: the bell tower on one side, the bridge and the water on the other. There is no coat of arms unifying the two, so the flag reads as two opposed emblems.

  2. The bridge stands in the water

The three-arched bridge does not float over the grey field: it sits on top of the three wavy blue lines. The waves cut the spikes of the bridge, so the water passes underneath and the figure looks supported.

  3. The bell tower has an arched door

The only door of the bell tower is topped with a brick arch, while the windows are rectangular. The difference in shape between door and windows is what makes the tower read as a building rather than a block.
