The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Arnuero is a blue field with a white diagonal stripe. There is no figure at all: only colour and a band.

How it came about

Arnuero is a municipality in the autonomous community of Cantabria, in the comarca of Las Merindades. Its flag dates from 10 June 1996.

The stripe rises from the bottom of the flagpole towards the top of the fly side, leaving a large blue triangle at the upper corner of the flagpole and a smaller one at the lower corner of the fly side.

How it has changed

No earlier versions are documented.

What it means

  • Blue

the background of the field, in a single colour.

  • White stripe

wide, diagonal, with both edges straight and parallel.

  • Cut

the stripe goes out by the flagpole side and comes in by the fly side, but it does not pass through any corner.

  • No coat of arms

no coat of arms, no border, no other figure.

Fun facts

  1. A diagonal that does not touch the corners

The white stripe crosses the field from side to side, but it comes in by the flagpole edge and goes out by the fly edge without passing through any corner. That leaves two blue triangles of different sizes, and the flag is not divided into equal parts.

  2. With no coat of arms and no figure

The flag of Arnuero carries no municipal coat of arms or any other figure. It is one of the simplest in the repository: two colours and a straight diagonal band.

  3. The band is wider than the field

The blue is split into two unequal areas, and the white dominates the centre of the field. The minority colour is the one covering the most surface, because it goes in the central stripe.
