The full story

How it was born, how it has changed and what it means.

The flag of Arsèguel is a tricolour of three equal vertical stripes: light green by the flagpole, black in the centre and yellow at the fly side.

How it came about

Arsèguel is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Urgell, in the province of Lleida. Its flag was published in the DOGC on 18 June 2010.

It is one of the simplest municipal flags that can be approved: three stripes of colour and nothing else. No coat of arms, no letters, no figure.

How it has changed

It has never changed. It was published in 2010 and there are no documented later modifications.

    the stripe by the flagpole.

  • Black

Fun facts

  1. Three colours and nothing more

The flag of Arsèguel is a vertical tricolour with no coat of arms. It is one of the simplest that exist: there is no figure to interpret, only the order of the colours. In a comarca with such rich heraldry as the Alt Urgell, it is striking that a flag is just that.

  2. The black in the centre

Black takes up the central stripe, between the light green and the yellow. It is an unusual combination in municipal flags, where black is usually a detail or a frame. Here it is one of the three equal parts of the field.

  3. The DOGC as a source

The date of 2010 comes from the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya. It is the publication that records the Catalan flags approved by the Government, which is why many municipal flags carry an exact date and a DOGC number.
