Alfoz do Castrodouro is a municipality in the province of Lugo, in Galicia, in the comarca of Terra Chá. Its flag dates from 25 May 2022.

Fun facts

  1. The vair, a Portuguese motif in Galicia

The squares with drops of blue and white are the vair, a heraldic figure of the House of Braganza, the dynasty that ruled Portugal. It is a motif that appears in Galicia because of the proximity and the dynastic ties with Portugal.

  2. Sixteen windows in the tower

The central castle has sixteen arched windows, set in four rows. They are not decorative: they are the detail that tells an inhabited tower apart from a silhouette, and they give the whole the scale of a real building.

  3. Two halves that are not the same kind of thing

The flagpole half is a repeated geometric pattern; the fly half is a single large figure on a plain field. The flag sets texture against symbol instead of repeating the same device twice.
